★ Lone Stars Gateway to the West ★

Amarillo sees millions of visitors a year since we are a crossroads and thoroughfare with I-40, I-27 and Route 66.

Were full of surprises with notable things like: arts, gardens, museums, restaurants, historical sites, great architecture and much more. Heres what the Amarillo Convention and Visitor Council site has to say about Amarillo:
"What is there to do in Amarillo?Amarillo offers something for visitors of all ages; for the outdoor enthusiast, the arts connoisseur and the history buff alike. There is the Palo Duro Canyon, second largest canyon in the U.S, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum and the outdoor musical drama TEXAS and Wonderland Amusement Park. Historic Route 66, the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum and the Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian are other year-round attractions. The city is also home to professional ballet, opera, symphony and theater companies."

The First Professional App Produced by High School Students in America

The Amarillo Tourism App: Where to Eat, Sleep, Play is the first professional app created by high school students in America. This project was created by the students of the PASS Program at North Heights Alternative School during the spring of 2011 and completed this December 2013. Over 100 students worked on this app and they are all eligible for royalties. Student-directors researched each and every entry, took video and photos, interviewed businesses and put together a comprehensive app that serves the millions who pass through and spend the night here each year. Each entry is loaded with advice, an interactive map with directions, prices, suggestions, hours, advice, contact info, links and much more. The video was shot and edited and produced by Hope Stokes, Jordan Kime and Brady Heatley, seniors at North Heights PASS Program.

The Amarillo Tourism App: Where to Eat, Sleep, Play has over 360 entries covering dining, lodging and recreation in and around Amarillo. The app will be published with national third-party developer Sutro Media. The app will be available during the holidays through the iTunes App Store and Android Store. The Amarillo Tourism App: Where to Eat, Sleep, Play has over 900 photos and will include this promotional video within the app. The app will retail for $2.99 and the royalties will go to NHAS students.

Original music composed by North Heights teacher and local musician (and co-writer of the Dixie Chicks’ song Wide Open Spaces), Gary Wayne Thomason.
